Rooted in character, built for the future

The Vicky Scholarship was created to celebrate students whose roots have shaped their character, ambitions, and commitment to making a meaningful impact in their communities. We are looking for individuals who honor where they come from while actively building a brighter future.

To apply, applicants must meet all of the following:

  • Enrollment. Be a graduating high school senior or current undergraduate student planning to enroll or currently enrolled in an accredited two-year or four-year college or university, pursuing a degree in Business, Hospitality, or Culinary Arts.
  • First-generation status. Identify as a first-generation college student, meaning neither parent or legal guardian has earned a four-year bachelor's degree.
  • Academic standing. Have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale (or equivalent).
  • Leadership & involvement. Demonstrate leadership, community involvement, or meaningful participation in school, work, family responsibilities, or extracurricular activities.
  • Completed application materials, including:
    • A completed online application.
    • An unofficial or official academic transcript.
    • A current resume highlighting academic achievements, work experience, leadership roles, extracurricular activities, volunteer service, and other relevant accomplishments.
    • A 3 to 5 minute video response answering the scholarship prompt.
  • Commitment. Be committed to pursuing higher education and making a positive impact within their community.

Tell us about your roots

"In Spanish, 'Raíces' means Roots! Tell us about the people, experiences, traditions, or values that have shaped your roots and how they influence the future you hope to build."
  • Be between 3 and 5 minutes in length
  • Be recorded in Enalish, Spanish, or a combination of both
  • Showcase how applicant’s authentic voice ana personal story
  • Explain how their background has influenced their goals, aspirations, and vision for the future

How applications are reviewed

Applications will be reviewed holistically, based on a combination of:

  • Academic achievement
  • Leadership and community involvement
  • Quality and authenticity of the video response
  • Letter of recommendation
  • Demonstrated commitment to personal growth and future goals
  • Overall alignment with the mission and values of the Raices Scholarship

Recipients may be asked to participate in a scholarship recognition announcement, provide a photo and brief biography for future awareness, and share updates regarding their educational journey and achievements.

Important notes

  • Complete or late applicatons will not be considered.
  • Scholarship funds will be sent directly to the recipients accredited college or university and appiled toward ellgible edicational expenses.
